Last week, we examined praying with a pure heart. Today, I want to examine praying with a humble heart. Our hearts need to be pure, but we must also approach God with humility if we want Him to answer our prayers.
"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up." — James 4:10
Humility is not about thinking less of ourselves but recognizing our dependence on God. In a world that often pushes self-promotion and pride, God calls us to surrender, acknowledging that all we have, and all we are, come from Him. Surrender means to yield to the power of another.
When we humble ourselves before God, we admit that we cannot do life on our own. We lay down our desires, struggles, and need for control at His feet, trusting in His perfect wisdom and timing. True humility invites God to work in and through us, shaping our hearts to reflect His love and grace.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
Take a moment today to examine your heart. Are there areas where pride is holding you back from fully surrendering to God? Pray and ask Him to cultivate humility in you, knowing that as you lower yourself before Him, He will lift you up in His perfect way.
