“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

This is probably the most quoted verse in the Bible. Look at a couple of things with me about the love of God…

  1. The Perimeter of God’s Love “the world”

Perimeter- the outer boundary of a body or figure

It amazes me that God, being all-knowing, would still say He loved the world! He knew how we would fail him before we were even born, and yet He still loves us!

From the best person to the worst, the poorest to the richest, from the oldest to the youngest—all 7.9 billion people in the world today—He loves every single one!!!

  1. The Proof of God’s Love “He gave”

Proof- evidence of a truth or fact

Saying you love someone is one thing, but showing it is another. We don’t have to believe God loves us only because He tells us in His word, but because His actions prove it. Jesus proved His love when He went to Calvary and died for our sins! I could think of no greater proof than that. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

  1. The Prudence of God’s Love “His only begotten son”

Prudence- being careful or thrifty

You see, God just didn’t send anyone to die for our sins. As a matter of fact, there was no one else who could come and die for our sins because the sacrifice for the sins of the world had to have pure, undefiled blood!! Jesus, who was tempted just like us, lived a perfect, sinless life so that he could be the ultimate sacrifice for us.

  1. The Protection of God’s Love “should not perish”

Without the sacrifice of Jesus Christ we had no hope. The death of Jesus on the cross gave us protection from Hell. This is the greatest protection that one can give because it is eternal protection. No one else can give this protection!!

  1. The Provision of God’s Love “have everlasting life”

Abraham said in Genesis that “God will provide himself a lamb,” and just as He did for Abraham and Isaac, God provided a lamb for us also, and His name is Jesus! Because of this provision, we can have hope in the promise of an eternity spent with Jesus in Heaven, if we will simply put our faith in Him and accept Jesus as our Savior.
