He hath done all things well.” God recently reminded me of this simple, yet powerful phrase in Mark. The full verse in Mark 7:37 says, “And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.”

Jesus was often surrounded by people who were amazed by His ability to heal the sick, the deaf, the dumb, and others.

But what about those who weren’t healed?

I think of the Apostle Paul who besought the Lord to remove the thorn in his flesh three times with no healing. Even greater is the suffering of which Jesus went through for us, having prayed that the cup would pass from him if it were the Father’s will. Yet we know, and thankfully so, Jesus drank the bitter cup.

God does not always deliver us from our pain, but He instead walks through the pain with us.

It is easy to say, “He hath done all things well” when God is working wonders in our lives. But what about when life isn’t going so well? Do we praise His abilities when we get that phone call from the doctor with news we hoped we wouldn’t hear? Or when someone we love does the unthinkable? When we can barely breathe through the tears, do we still hold to, “He hath done all things well?”

Whatever you are struggling with…

The loss of a loved one.

The finances that have you stretched and stressed.

The child who has gone astray.

The breakup that has left your heart in shattered pieces…

He knew before you were formed that this burden would be heavy. As Job said, “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” You may feel gutted, but He has prepared the grace for you to walk through this valley. And with His grace, you will see a brighter day. Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next week, but remember without the valley, there could be no Lily of the Valley.

Take courage. Take hope.

He hath done all things well.
