In John chapter 11 we find the story of Lazarus. He had been sick, and his sisters sent for Jesus, but Jesus didn't get there until four days later. By that time Lazarus had died. I love John 11:35 where the Bible tells us that Jesus wept. This simply means that Jesus cried. There are many explanations and theories for why He did, but I simply believe it was because His friend had died and His heart was broken for Lazarus’ sisters. When Jesus finally arrived at the tomb of Lazarus, he performed the miracle of raising him from the dead. Once alive, Jesus told them to lose him and let him go.
In John chapter 12 we read of Lazarus again, but this time he is no longer at the tomb, a place of death, but instead seated at the table with Jesus. You see, Jesus didn’t just raise Lazarus from the dead to leave him at a tomb, but He raised him from the dead to bring him to a table.
Lazarus at the tomb is a picture, or type, of us before salvation. Lazarus at the table is a picture, or type, of us after salvation. Jesus raised our dead souls from the grave that sin had us bound in, not to leave us sitting around where we used to be, BUT to bring us into fellowship with Him. I find it amazing that the King of Kings wants to be in fellowship with me. He wants to walk with me and talk with me. What a joy to know Jesus can change our lives and then fellowship with us daily.
